Da Nang is taking bold steps to position itself as Vietnam’s first “Data City.” In collaboration with the National Data Association, the city is opening new opportunities for startups, investors, and partners to harness the power of data for innovation and sustainable growth.
A New Chapter for Data and Innovation
On September 8, the Da Nang Startup & Innovation Support Center, together with representatives from several support organizations and startups, held a working session with the National Data Association (NDA), marking an important step in unlocking the value of data for startups and businesses.

At the meeting, both sides discussed pressing issues around data governance, legal frameworks, and policy support to enable better sharing, application, and commercialization of data. The NDA emphasized that its role goes beyond policy consultation-it aims to develop data management products, build a strong data industry, and turn data into a true driver of national growth.

Why Da Nang? The Pilot “Data City”
A highlight of the discussion was NDA’s proposal to make Da Nang the first “Data City” in Vietnam. The model would focus on leveraging core data pillars – such as tourism, logistics, healthcare, finance, education, and public administration – while aligning with the city’s existing strengths.
The NDA also envisions setting up a large-scale incubator in Da Nang, along with hosting conferences and events to foster a thriving environment where startups can access official data sources, build data-driven products, and scale innovative services.

Speaking at the session, Mr. Anh Vo, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Startup & Innovation Support Center, emphasized that the city has always been at the forefront of experimenting with new technologies. Da Nang has already introduced a sandbox mechanism for startups and is in the process of developing a financial center.
However, to enable the startup community to grow more strongly, there is a pressing need for visa regulations for entrepreneurs, along with support mechanisms to help products reach international markets. The city is also studying new policies to facilitate businesses in expanding connections and scaling their operations globally.

At the meeting, several delegates also put forward recommendations to the Association, such as the need for a transparent and consistent data-sharing mechanism between government agencies and businesses, and the development of a management system for official data sources, including healthcare, tourism, and education.
This would support startups in conducting research and gaining deeper insights into local markets. As a result, startups would be able to accurately capture the current landscape and propose suitable, practical solutions to specific challenges.
Conclusion
The working session opened a new direction of collaboration between the Da Nang Startup & Innovation Support Center and the National Data Association, contributing to advancing data applications and supporting the growth of the innovation and startup ecosystem in the coming period.

For startups and innovators, this initiative opens doors to:
- Access structured, official datasets for deeper market research and product development.
- Collaborate with regulators and ecosystem partners in shaping data-driven industries.
- Explore opportunities in sectors like tourism, healthcare, and education where data is abundant yet underutilized.
For investors and partners, it signals Da Nang’s long-term commitment to becoming a hub for innovation and sustainable digital growth in Central Vietnam.
